• Convenience - According to our internal research from 2016, 36.5% of respondents who would not study live with a teacher, said they would study voice lessons over the internet if the technology platform existed. That number has only gone up post-pandemic. The Digital Learning Pulse survey found that after the 2020-2021 school year, 76% of higher education students said they "somewhat" or "strongly" agreed that “they would like to take some online courses in the future.” (source)

Online voice lessons have audio lag

Teaching online over video chat platforms can have many “hangups”. Not only do they glitch out and freeze, but there is almost always an audio lag making it impossible to do things in unison like singing or playing music.

Not to mention, according to our research, current music and voice lesson services are out of date and do not possess modern vocal teaching methods to create true, healthy, and sustainable results over the internet.

Audio lags up to 1 second or more can be frustrating and distracting to the learning experience, especially when it comes to correcting and instituting healthy vocal production.  VoiceLessons.com's patented technology avoids audio lags, stores interactive libraries of accompaniment tracks, scores and lead sheets, and records and stores lesson video so the teacher and student don't have to.

HOW to practice between lessons is another problem that singers experience when trying to drill the exercises from their lessons.  Novice students benefit tremendously from following their teacher prescribed practice routines.

And, finally, most students and teachers can’t easily find each other. Oftentimes students don’t know where to find trustworthy, individualized instruction they can afford and teachers are not experts in online marketing; both benefit from a matching service in this exciting new world of online teaching. 

An aged industry ripe for change

Singing and the vocal arts go back millennia. There are 16,000 voice teachers in the US alone, and 25 million singers. Every year, over 1 million new singers enter the market (source).  The National Endowment of the Arts survey of Public Participation in the Arts found that 8.8 million (2.7%) Americans in 2017 were engaged in formal music study. Another 33.5 million (10.3%) engaged in informal music study (source). These are the singers we would like to engage by offering lower-cost and effective options.

Additionally, according to real singers that have signed up on VoiceLessons.com,  66% of students’ budgets are under $100 per month which makes regular weekly solo private lessons unreachable for a large segment of the market. With this group-oriented option, we could potentially triple our revenue.

Researched for years, tested the market, and proved product market fit during pandemic

We tested our current version of Voice Lessons with more than 650 teachers (4% of the teacher market) and are now implementing the third version with lessons learned. 

Here’s some insights we took away from our research and development:

Pivot to group: Through testing our platform with private, one-on-one lessons we found that we will have greater market fit and scalability by building a system that accommodates group lessons, which has meant a rebuild of the platform from the ground up.

Pivot to matching: By testing a matching service in 2020-2022 between teachers and students, we found that we can scale teachers faster and with less friction by quickly loading them up with students. While benefiting the teachers and students with free and subscription based matching, we are creating more use of our subscription-based, proprietary platform.

A couple future expansion plans and pivots for your consideration

We plan to divert the majority of your investments into our marketplace matching and group lesson system development and marketing efforts to complete those pivots and aim to ensure our multi-sided flywheels are spinning at optimal speed for controlled growth, but we won’t stop there!  We have the vision to expand our business even further with more pivots and may seek additional capital to increase shareholder wealth.

Pivot to larger audiences: We identified an even larger market for service of ages 12-20 and intend on rebranding to Vocal.ly to be hip, fun, trendy, approachable and reachable by the large portion of TikTok-type users who actually want to learn to sing.  

Pivot to new markets: We identified Speech Language Pathology (SLP) as an adjacent market for our platform with over 200,000 SLPs in the United States, which is 11.7x the size of the singing education market. An SLP is a specialized, credentialed health professional, who helps with rehabilitation and training of vocal health issues. Many SLP practitioners are singers and/or voice teachers and our VocaLoop® technology is equally beneficial in both realms. Employment of speech-language pathologists is projected to grow 29 percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations (source). New analysis indicates telehealth use has increased 38X from the pre-COVID-19 baseline (source). Further investments will be necessary for HIPAA Compliance and Telemedicine.

This means that by 2025, we hope to see ourselves successfully serving at least…
