Introducing SE Collections
For the first time, StartEngine Collectibles is offering an investment in not one, but a collection of assets through one offering. This concept, called StartEngine Collections, allows the investor further diversification by making the selection process that much easier.
It has become increasingly evident that investors are interested in investing in fine wine, however, the difficulty of choosing which wine works best for you is not easy. For example, it is known that the region of Bordeaux is a hotbed for fine wine. However, how do you know which wine to select when making your investment? This arduous decision brought for the idea of StartEngine Collections, and we are proud to announce our inaugural collection: the Bordeaux Collection.
This stellar collection embodies the brilliance of Bordeaux. Every wine in this offering has an elite pedigree, with each wine earning a critic score of at least 92 points. To ensure quality and excellence, all wines come from highly rated vintages of 2017, 2018, and 2019. From micro cuvées on the Right Bank to top classified growths from the Left Bank, this stalwart collection showcases the full range of the Bordeaux region in all its glory.
Why Bordeaux
Bordeaux has a storied reputation for producing some of the best wines on the planet. Aside from its incredible geographies and physical beauty, the region consistently produces award-winning fine wines. In fact, the Liv-Ex Bordeaux 500 Index, a collection of the 500 most popular and successful wines in the region, has appreciated 19.7% over the past five years. When digging in further, the Bordeaux 500 has outperformed both the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ this year in terms of return, with the Bordeaux 500 increasing by 4.1%, while the S&P 500 and NASDAQ are down 16.21% and 23.92% respectively.
*Please note that these are historical returns for the wine market as a whole, and do not reflect the value of or potential returns on the shares of this Series.
*This graph represents the historical market (trades) for Bordeax 500 Index on the London Vintners Exchange (Liv-ex), a global platform for wine trading and indexing. Not all of the wines in this Bordeaux Collection are the same as the wines included in the Bordeaux 500. Prior performance of comparable works is not indicative of future results. The wines
This diverse collection of fine wines has several notable inclusions. Its crown jewel is the ultra-rare 2019 Le Pin, of which only 600 cases were made. The collection also features a bottle of Chateau Ausone 2018 and Chateau Cheval Blanc of 2019, both of which have the distinction of being 100-point graded wines. Aficionados will also recognize the modest but fantastic 2018 Desmirail which boasts a 96-point score. Rounding out this collection is the first release of the 2018 Le Coeur, which comes from the family that produced the famous Chateau Angelus. This phenomenal wine was aged in barrels sourced from Domaine de la Romanee Conti, an iconic estate in Burgundy. Whether you’re a seasoned sommelier or a wine appreciator who’s looking to diversify your portfolio, this wine collection has something for everyone.
The market
Wine Market:
Fine wine is an asset class that has consistently outperformed the S&P 500 over the last 30 years. According to a 2018 article published by a Morgan Stanley analyst, Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 Index, which tracks the price movement of 100 of the most actively traded wines in the world, showed returns over a 10-year period exceeding that for FTSE and S&P 500, with lower volatility than gold.
Alternative Investments:
The 2018 U.S. Trust Insights on Wealth and Worth survey on wealthy household’s found that while baby boomers and older investors rely primarily on traditional stocks and bonds, younger investors, especially millennials, are more likely to incorporate alternative strategies into their investment portfolios. Millennials allocate 17% to alternatives and assets other than stocks, bonds and cash. It also found that 61% of millennial investors think it’s not possible to achieve above-average returns by investing solely in stocks and bonds anymore, and are looking for alternative investments. For example, the report showed that millennials are the fastest growing segment of art collectors, up 8% year-over-year and comprising 36% of total respondents. We believe these shifts in millennial investing tastes suggest there will be more interest in investing in alternative assets.

With Regulation A+, a non-accredited investor can only invest a maximum of 10% of their annual income or 10% of their net worth per year, whichever is greater. There are no restrictions for accredited investors.
With Regulation Crowdfunding, non-accredited investors with an annual income or net worth less than $124,000 are limited to invest a maximum of 5% of the greater of those two amounts. For those with an annual income and net worth greater than $124,000, they are limited to investing 10% of the greater of the two amounts.
At the close of an offering, all investors whose funds have “cleared” by this time will be included in the disbursement. At this time, each investor will receive an email from StartEngine with their Countersigned Subscription Agreement, which will serve as their proof of purchase moving forward.
Please keep in mind that a company can conduct a series of “closes” or withdrawals of funds throughout the duration of the campaign. If you are included in that withdrawal period, you will be emailed your countersigned subscription agreement and proof of purchase immediately following that withdrawal.
StartEngine assists companies in raising capital, and once the offering is closed, we are no longer involved with whether the company chooses to list shares on a secondary market or what occurs thereafter. Therefore, StartEngine has no control or insight into your investment after the close of the live offering. In addition, we are not permitted to provide financial advice. You may want to contact a financial professional to discuss possible investment outcomes.
For Regulation Crowdfunding, investors are able to cancel their investment at any point throughout the campaign up until 48 hours before the closing of the offering. Note: If the company does a rolling close, they will post an update to their current investors, giving them the opportunity to cancel during this timeframe. If you do not cancel within this 5-day timeframe, your funds will be invested in the company, and you will no longer be able to cancel the investment. If your funds show as ‘Invested’ on your account dashboard, your investment can no longer be canceled.
For Regulation A+, StartEngine allows for a four-hour cancellation period. Once the four-hour window has passed, it is up to each company to set their own cancellation policy. You may find the company’s cancellation policy in the company’s offering circular.
Once your investment is canceled, there is a 10-day clearing period (from the date your investment was submitted). After your funds have cleared the bank, you will receive your refund within 10 business days.
Refunds that are made through ACH payments can take up to 10 business days to clear. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the bank, but we will do everything we can to get you your refund as soon as possible. However, every investment needs to go through the clearing process in order to be sent back to the account associated with the investment.
Both Title III (Regulation Crowdfunding) and Title IV (Reg A+) help entrepreneurs crowdfund capital investments from unaccredited and accredited investors. The differences between these regulations are related to the investor limitations, the differing amounts of money companies are permitted to raise, and differing disclosure and filing requirements.
