Company Description

The Back Alley Brewing Company will be a craft brewery nestled in the heart of the Borough of Dormont owned and operated by Dormont residents. With a spacious floor plan and a team of well-trained servers, Back Alley Brewing Company will provide guests of all ages with a one-of-a-kind brewery experience. Two large event rooms upstairs will provide a much-needed private space for the a wide variety of customers. A rotating variety of award-winning ales, lagers, and ciders will be offered with a delectable selection of sandwiches and other small plates. In addition to the inhouse service of draft beer and food, we will be packaging our beer so that it can be enjoyed wherever you would like. We will offer not only growlers of beer to go but six packs as well. As we grow, so will the availability of our beer as we move into local grocery stores and six pack shops. We will also be available on tap in select local bars and restaurants. We will also be selling merchandise both at the brewery and through our website.

Use of Proceeds

  • $100,000 Brewing and Cellaring Equipment
  • $25,000 Canning System
  • $100,000 Buildout of the Taproom
  • $25,000 Tables, Chairs, and Other Fixtures

We will be using the funds from this campaign to put our dream in motion. As homebrewers we have been able to develop recipes and practice our craft. It is time to share our craft with our community. The full-scale equipment will allow us to create enough beer that everyone who wants to will be able to enjoy it. The canning system allows us to give our customers flexibility in how they choose to enjoy our products. It also gives the capability to share our beer with other communities outside of Dormont. With the taproom we will be offering a comfortable place for our neighbors to gather and relax.

Management Team / Advisory Board Bios

Lee Sifford
Lee is always thinking of the next new and interesting recipe. His love of beer is rivaled only by an affinity for creating and a deep passion for sports. A proud Penn State alum, Lee works as a Senior Engineer where he designs pressure vessel components for the steel and energy industries. He also covers professional sports as a writer for several online publications. He and his two dogs Eris and Linc are the proud new owners of a house that is just steps away from the brewery. At least we know who is on call when one of us inevitably gets locked out!

Jacob Maxwell
Jake can quote any line from any movie ... ever. After studying film at Penn State University, Jake moved to Los Angeles following graduation where he developed a love of the restaurant industry while working at Yardbird. Deep down, Jake always knew that he was a Pittsburgh boy, so he returned home, settling into a new neighborhood in Dormont. Jake works as a Manager at Fresh Thyme Farmers Market. When he isn't working, you can find Jake on the disc golf course or elbows deep in something delicious in the kitchen.

Patrick McKinley
Pat has the best beard of the group, but the rest of them would quickly remind you that he is also the oldest. A graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Pat works as a Senior Controls Engineer, specializing in automation programming and product development. Pat grew up just east of Pittsburgh and was a proud member of the Circleville Volunteer Fire Department before moving to Erie for work and school. He and his wife Patty now live in Dormont with their dog Piper and baby McKinley on the way.

Patricia McKinley
The better half of the McKinley pair, Patty keeps the business side of the brewery (and the rest of the crew) in check. Patty holds degrees in Project and Supply Chain Management and Management Information Systems from Penn State University and has experience in small business management from her days as an assistant office manager at her family's veterinary hospital. In addition to working as a Transportation Analyst at Carmeuse Americas, Patty is an animal lover and is excited to share her entrepreneurial spirit and love of beer with the Dormont Community.

Cody Hoellerman
By day, Cody works as the Chief Community Engagement Officer at Animal Friends. He lives in Brookline with his fiancé Alexa and their three dogs, Archie, Freckles and Ollie. Cody graduated from Susquehanna University with a degree in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations. When he was young, Cody had dreams of one day becoming a professional stunt double, but he is perfectly content settling for working with animals and making beer. Life could definitely be worse.

Security Description

Secured debt is debt backed or secured by collateral to reduce the risk associated with lending. If the borrower on a loan defaults on repayment, the debt holder can seize the collateral, sell it, and use the proceeds to pay back the debt. Assets backing debt or a debt instrument are considered as a form of security, which is why unsecured debt is considered a riskier investment than secured debt.
