While on an annual trip in Northern Michigan in winter of 2018 with his brother, brother-in-laws and nephews, Jef Smith and the group stumbled into a small brewery out of a barn on its family's property. After striking up a conversation with the owner, Smith was convinced that the idea of opening a brewery was tangible. Even each of his nephews turned to him one-by-one and said "This is what you should be doing."
