The players vote was published in the NFL Record and Fact Book alongside the Associated Press, United Press International, and the Pro Football Writers Association awards. The NEA last announced Jim Thorpe Trophy awards in 1997.
Emmitt Smith was awarded the NEA NFL MVP in 1993 and 1994; however, he is only recognized as the official NFL MVP in 1993. Steve Young is recognized as the official NFL MVP in 1994.
