Cristiano Ronaldo started his career with Sporting CP in the Primeira Liga, Portugal's premier professional soccer league. On August 6, 2003, the legendary Manchester United traveled to play a friendly at the Estadio José Alválade, Sporting CP's home stadium. Then Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was so impressed by Ronaldo's exceptional performance, that he enthusiastically acquired the striker from Sporting CP six days after the match.
