Nancy Steiner

Director

Having honed her career as a science teacher, it seemed only natural when Nancy Steiner decided to use her professional knowledge in the kitchen. A native of New York City raised in Port Washington, Long Island, she took inspiration from her father-in-law, Malcolm Steiner. A man of very few words (“add more butter” being three of them as a universal corrective), Malcolm took Nancy under his wing and taught her everything he knew, including his killer recipe for coffee cake.
Health concerns led Nancy toward a specific goal. More than 30 years ago she was diagnosed with Celiac disease, and began to work tirelessly in the kitchen to develop a gluten-free, all-purpose flour that baked for the masses. Over the years she tapped her science acumen to pursue this goal, testing every product on the market, with the dream of baking something so delicious, so perfectly moist, that unsuspecting consumers wouldn’t know it was gluten-free.
In anticipation of success, her children Jen and Jeff initially established the brand, Steiner’s Coffee Cake of New York, in 2010. It took a few more years, but finally Nancy nailed it – on the precipice of her 70th birthday she was ready to launch her company.
Today, Nancy still focuses on the R&D while Jen runs the company, and the mother-daughter team loves selling their line of gluten-free, nut-free, kosher products to consumers. These include brownies, ginger snaps, all-purpose gluten-free baking flour, and of course, “the very best coffee cake in the world.”
