The Artist: Salvadore Dali was a Spanish surrealist artist renowned for his technical skill, precise draftsmanship, and the striking and bizarre images in his work. Dalí's artistic repertoire included painting, graphic arts, film, sculpture, design and photography, at times in collaboration with other artists. He also wrote fiction, poetry, autobiography and criticism. Major themes in his work include dreams, the subconscious, sexuality, religion, science and his closest personal relationships.

The Artwork: The present work entitled Cavaliers sur la plage is a prime example of Dali’s fascination with the horseback riders. The artist completed an entire set of etchings and drawings related to Don Quixote throughout his career, one of which is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
